Law Restricting Student Cell Phones
Alani Morales

JP Schools Families,

We are writing with important information regarding cell phone use in our schools. The Louisiana Legislature passed a law this spring that prohibits students from using electronic devices (cell phones) on school property during the school day.

Our current policy also says that electronic devices such as cell phones must be turned off and stored out of sight during the school day. We are in discussions with stakeholders and board members regarding revisions to the JP Schools cell phone policy and the implementation logistics. We will send any updates with further instructions and guidance regarding the cell phone policy as needed.

In the meantime, students are expected to follow the current policy, which provides that cell phones shall be turned off and stored out of sight for the entirety of the school day.

As a reminder, violations of School Board Policy JCDAE will result in progressive discipline in accordance with the JP Schools Code of Conduct as set forth in the Procedures and Policies for Parents and Students.

Thank you for your support of this policy as we work together to promote academic engagement, reduce distractions, and foster technology responsibility for students.

Sincerely,
Dr. James Gray
